To Stay or To Go!

This year’s season is half way through, making many people wonder how their favorite shows are doing so far. Entertainment Weekly created a list of the top 50 shows on TV so far.  Click here if you want to see if your show made the list!

According to ET, American Idol has the highest ratings on TV right now, along with NFL Sunday Football.  The list also includes some personal favorites, such as Grey’s, Hawaii 5-0, Bones, and House. Sadly, some of my other shows made it onto the list of the bottom 50, which thankfully are not cancelled …. yet! Some shows that have low ratings include The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, and CSI: NY, and Gossip Girl. However, the lowest of the low was One Tree Hill, which has been a favorite for cancellation for a few years now.  It went from being a show I always watched to one that I sometimes forget is still on!

So check out this TV Survival Scorecard if you want to know about the future of  your favorite shows and sitcoms! What shows do you want to stay or to go?!

Double the Minds, Double the Crimes...

CBS loves spinoffs! The network already has a few, which include three different CSI shows and two NCIS’s.  So it would make perfect sense that they decided another one of their hit series needed a spinoff.  Last week CBS premiered the new show, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, which aired Wednesday night right after the original Criminal Minds.

The spinoff drama, almost identical to the original, revolves around a new group of FBI profilers who solve violent and gruesome cases.  One of the only differences in the show is the cast, which includes some pretty impressive actors. The Academy Award- winner Forest Whitaker plays Special Agent Sam Cooper, who is in charge of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. His team also includes Janeane Garofalo, Michael Kelly, and Beau Garrett. Kirsten Vangsness, who plays Penelope Garcia in the original series, will make appearances in both shows as the computer technician for the FBI.
While the reviews have been mixed so far, the new series managed to get a large audience to tune in. According to Tvguide.com the premiere rounded up 12.9 million viewers and was one of the largest audiences the network has had during that time slot in over a year.  I admit that I love any type of cop/killer drama, so I definitely watched the new spinoff.  While the new series didn’t excite me as much as I hoped and the story line was a little cliché, I’m not completely writing it off.  The new cast takes getting used to and it always takes a while for a show to get into the groove of things.  I’ll give it a few more tries before I make my final judgment!  In the mean time let’s see if it can keep up with the success of CBS’s other hit spinoffs.

Here’s a clip of what to expect this season on Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior

Grey's Anatomy

The doctors on Grey’s Anatomy had a lot of decisions to make in this past episode. While Meredith had to choose between two amazing clinical trials, her sister Lexie had to choose between her father and her disgruntled feelings for his much younger girlfriend. And most importantly, Callie was forced to choose between her severe caffeine addiction and the potential health of her baby!
This past episode, Pretty Young Things, was one of the best ones that I have seen in a while. It reminded me of why I began watching Grey’s in the first place. While the show has gone through a lot of changes during its seven seasons on TV, it has managed to keep my attention from the very beginning.  For a show that is seen as a sappy melodrama, it also has a lot of humor. However, the past few seasons have really dragged on and have been less than thrilling. Usually, my friends and I would end up laughing and/or crying during a single episode.  Most would leave us in tears; however, the past few seasons have definitely been slacking in the humor and tear jerking area.
But there may be hope; this episode left me laughing out loud!  Callie’s severe need for a cup of coffee while on top of a hospital bed, trying to snap a guy’s hip into place left me smiling at the TV; and also hoping that all doctor’s have had their caffeine fix before seeing patients!
And if there weren’t enough emotions running through the hospital, Lexie had to deal with her father’s failing liver and his young, tattooed girlfriend.  Poor Lexie also had to deal with the fact that her boyfriend was having a baby with another woman! When you finally thought McSteamy and Lexie would be back together, the writers decided to confuse and annoy you even more.  Instead it seems a relationship may form between Lexie and Dr. Avery, who by the way, really needs more screen time!

Next week’s episode looks even more promising, bringing dramatic accidents and patients back to Seattle Grace.

How do you feel about the last episode of Grey's Anatomy? Do you think Meredith made the right choice for which clinical trial to choose? Does Lexie need to get over McSteamy and begin things with Avery? Did you think it was a funny episode or is it still lacking something?!

Move over Housewives of NY, Miami is coming...

While I watch all six of the Housewives series, I love The Real Housewives of New York! I am probably extremely biased in saying they are far more entertaining than the other Housewives series… it must be a New York thing. So you can imagine my disappointment that I now have to wait another three months for the fourth season of The Real Housewives of New York!
Although, it was supposed to debut later this month, Bravo decided to air the rumored season of Miami, which will now premiere February 22, instead. The Real Housewives of Miami was originally the Miami Social Club, a show that Bravo aired previously, with less than impressive ratings.  While it did get picked up for a second season, executive producers decided to add it to the Housewives franchise. The latest installment of The Real Housewives will follow six affluent women in South Florida; while NY stays on the shelf in till spring.
Now don’t get me wrong, the Housewives are defiantly my guilty pleasure; and it has made Bravo and its executive VP, Andy Cohen, a lot of money and fame.  However, how many different cities can be taken over by these housewives?! While the cities seem to change, the women all appear to be the same… wealthy, bored, and looking for different ways to spend money.  I wonder how long Bravo can keep up before viewers become tired of the same old thing.  For a while I thought Bravo should do an international housewife series and see how housewives around the world live.  And it looks like someone thought so too because rumors of Housewives’ spin-offs recently include, The Real Housewives of Athens and The Real Housewives of Israel.  The waiting game is on to see if the spin-offs can match up to the popularity of Bravo’s U.S franchise.  In the mean time, Miami will have to do!

What to watch this weekend:
·         Spartacus: Gods of the Arena on Starz – Airs Fri, Feb 4
·         Super Bowl XlV  on Fox – Airs Sun, Feb 6
·         Glee, which will air Sunday after the Super Bowl on Fox.
